Default game sugestion - camping out

since this is my first post here, i should start by saying hello.

hello.

i have been on edge for a MMO RPG of quolity for a long time. sure WoW been out for a while, but i just can't bring myself to pay money hungry fat cat's a monthly charge to use software that i purchse..hence how i came across guild wars last monday, and have been on from noon to 6 a.m. every day this week.

my party however ran into what i expect is a comon problem, and came up with a solution we think is viable for beter game play, not very dificult to impliment (compared to other idea's we had), and something that the developers might not have thought of.

with that said, i could not find an offical forum that i could be ensured they would see the sugestion and get response, so i'm takeing a different route...i composed an e-mail to them, and i'm posting a cut and paste in some of the forum's in their fansite list, then adding the link's to the threads back into the e-mail, so they can guage the comunity response's. - if this is something that's already been sugested by someone, then sry for wasteing your time. but i'm posting without searching, cuz i don't have alot of time left in my day. thank you in advance.

first off, ive been playing paper RPG's since i was 12 with family, and i commend Guild Wars for captureing the RPG feal very well...however there is an aspect of RPG's that i still find wanting in the game ( and video RPG's in general).

several times on quest's, my party has found ourselve's very close to the goal, but unable to get it because we have resurected each other too much to be effective aginst the remaining creature's due to the negitive percentages attributed to being revived...often times we are forced to return to town, and go through all the cretures that killed us before only to find ourselve back in the same boat.

in D&D, and many other like games, this is the point where the group finds a place to camp out and recover..we were thinking this might be implimentible within your game; to not only give player's a way to recover enough to compleate the mission, but add an aspect of RPG's that no other video game has yet been able to capture.

with a tent item in invintory, a group could retreat to a open area and set up a camp. the camp would have the tent's of the player's, a fire pit and a wepon rack of some kind.

like any rpg, the camp fire may attract monster's which would attack - the player's would get suprised by the monsters and take some damage before they can jump into the fight, even going as far as requireing them to run from their tent to the weapons rack before they can have weapons and armor to engage the attackers with.

camps would have to be designed so that they are well off of the path . the closer player's camp to where the monsters are, the greater the chance there is of the camp being attacked, and the larger the size of the monster group. camp location could be controlled by haveing permenint fire pit's to camp at, but this would reduce the chance of a party acidently camping right over a hill from bad guy's.

so besides random monster attacks, regular monster groups would have a radius where the fire will attract them, camp too close to a group of monsters and they will come and reek havoc as well.

this could even add a "find safe campsite" skill for the ranger, where he would use the skill and be able to see if they are in range of any monster groups - this wouldn't effect a random attack, but would reduce the chance of camping next to a group that will definetly attack.. with the skill based on the wilderness survival atrib. his radius would increase as the atribute goes up.

while camping, player's would recover 10% everytime they camp, and it would do a time laspe. if the characters sleep the whole night without inceident, then they wake up the next morning, if there's a raid then they wake up at night with monsters just outside of the camp. ranger's would give the group more advanced warning so that a party with a ranger would have a better chance of getting into the fight.

also when a party camp's, some of the monster's that they just killed on the mission should also respawn, maybe the last 5 killed every time they camp...that way the party doesn't get to just waltz through the end of a quest and the monsters that are respawned are more likely to be in a position where the players have to go through.

night's where the camp was raided would not regenerate the 10%, maybe just a portion of it, depending on the time of night the camp get's attacked. also if player's camp the same general area over and over their chance of getting attacked will also go up.

different sized tent's would have different effect's as well. a small pup tent would only get the character up to -30%, where as a large garison tent would get them to -15.

this way the player's still have to deal with penelties of death, while at the same time not being forced to repeditively transverse the same hoards of beasties without hope of finishing the mission.

just an idea...love the game over all, and i comend you for thinking of the players first and showing the world that game companies don't have to soak their players with monthly fee's to play a game they already paid for. keep up the good work. thank you

i am posting this in a few forums and am provideing link's so that you can guage the response of the rest of the comunity.

P.S. - also plaid dye would be cool

Just be glad when you die no one else can come around and ravage your dead body, that you dont drop gold or items or lose exp points.

This defeats the purpose of Guild Wars. They stated themselves, it isn't truly an RPG, it's an action games. Find me an action game with camp sites. Or where someone will waste 12.5% of their skills to be sure they can do nothing for a while.
